Margo Charette

Margo Charette has lived in Ottawa all her life and was not raised in her Indigenous community. She had to seek out her heritage to discover her family was from Wikwemikong on Manitoulin Island.

Although her crafts include medicine pouches, necklaces, medallions, and unique birch bark canoe earrings, she is best known for making Indigenous-style teddy bears. Learning crafting, beading, from women in the community and later on aunties, Margo says a light bulb went off one day as she began to use Indigenous fabrics. She loves working with her hands, learning new techniques. Her items have been purchased from Alaska to Ohio and many places in between.

Margo notes local crafter Karen Flemming as her biggest influence and inspiration as she steps outside of her comfort zone to keep creating.

Due to being part of Indigenous Marketplace, Margo has gained more visibility and customers, for which she is grateful.
