Photography By Angeleah
Angeleah Brazeau-Emmerson, is a first-year Indigenous student attending Carleton University. For a final project in her Indigenous Peoplehood Studies class, she decided to create a series of four photos that represent Traditional Indigenous presence in Ottawa, a city built on unceded and unsurrendered Algonquin Territory. This project aims to combat ideas of colonization, by demonstrating the strength and resiliency of Indigenous peoples through aspiring images of Indigenous existence outside isolated and enclosed reservation environments. These photos speak upon Angeleah's experience as an Indigenous woman, learning to navigate in a world designed to eliminate her people’s cultural and traditional means of life through efforts of colonization, assimilation, and continuous acts of genocide.
