Sister Bear Designs
Sister Bear Designs is a family endeavour that includes four generations of artists. From the community, Lac Des Mille Lac, northwest of Thunder Bay, Kathleen and her family work together to bring you earrings, jewellery and beadwork as well as clothing, moccasins, bath salts and other self-care items. Their products sell across the country, and can also be found at the Royal Alberta and Thunder Bay Museums.
A majority of Sister Bear’s materials are hunted, trapped, tanned and harvested in-house or by other local Indigenous suppliers. Kathleen started beading when she was only four years old. Presently, the youngest member of their team is eight. Finding beadwork frustrating, this enterprising 8-year-old creates the jingle earrings and herein lies an important lesson for the Sister Bear family. There is always space in the circle. Everyone has a gift, everyone has something to offer.
Kathleen and Sister Bear are proud to be a part of Indigenous Marketplace as a positive in the COVID pandemic.
